Subject: Alaska Race Report - Tue June 22

Hi all

I received a call from Bill Anderson. The fleet is spending another lay day in Petersburg today. We will get a report later today on the race legs 9 and 10.

Unfortunately, Kent and Carol Soffel on the Windy-i are on the ways in Wrangell after suffered some damage in Zimovia Strait just south of Wrangell. Jerry Downer on Norwester towed them in as they could not make it on their own power. Jerry and Owen Ritter on Outbound tayed with them for the day and will catch up with the fleet, probably today.

Tomorrow is a cruising day to Kake, Thursday cruising to Sitkoh Bay at the entrance to Peril Strait, Leg 11 on Friday thru Peril Strait and to Kalinin Bay and Saturday through the series of narrow straits winding their way to Sitka. Sue and I will fly to Sitka on Saturday to join Bill and Trish Anderson on The Tillie for the last week and final 3 legs to Juneau. Several others will fly to Sitka to join others racers, though unfortunately Andy Gerde has had to change his plans as he intended to run with Kent and Carol.

My last comment is we all feel the sadness for Kent and Carol, not only for the damage to Windy-i, but for losing their companionship from part of the trip. May your boat damage be minor and back on your trip of a lifetime quickly.

Thanks

Bob
