1000 Cruiser Navigation Contest
Hi
all
The fleet is in
Sitka
, having decided to skip the anchorage last night in
Kalinin
Bay
(20 miles N of Sitka along the narrows from
Peril/Chatham Straits to
Sitka
).
Their
position is: 57.0504°N 135.3415°W though this is
not the satellite position report, just my Coastal
Explorer ?at/Lon of Thomson Harbor.
I
did hear from
Carol Soffel
:
“Hi
Bob
,
Kent
and I each got calls from the gang.. Sirena (Gautschi
crew) called me at the same time Trish (The Tillie)
called
Kent
to say they scooted into
Sitka
.. We are still on the hard in Wrangle.. no rain
but overcast.. work on the boat is progressing.. We are
aiming at 'out of here' on Tuesday.. We are getting
surrounded by containers a freighter dropped off today.
It's a different life living in shipyard.. and I can't
wait to get into the water and on our way.. Hope we see
you real soon!!!!!!!!!!! Carol “
That
sounds pretty encouraging; and they may be able to join
up in
Juneau
.
I also spoke with
Bill Anderson
; he said the race leg #11 yesterday in Peril Straits
had the all too common occurrence on this trip of
predicted currents not being there; even with a
following wind and a predicted help from a flood. He is
looking forward to my help in the final 3 race legs to
Juneau
next week. Not that I can be much help, I have never
been through the Perils Straits or on a small boat in
Chatham Straits. But I am sure it will be fun anyway,
Sue and I fly to
Sitka
today. I will have some internet service over the next
week and when I do I will send an update. There will be
several days without reports; I hope you all can live
through the suspense!
Thanks
Bob
