Alaska
1000 Cruiser Navigation Contest
Folks,
Here
is the latest report from the Alaska 1000 group. A note
about Wanerian (the boat that dropped out), they were
tag alongs and were not in the contest.
Regards,
Jim

Subject: Alaska Race Report - Wed June 9,2010
Hi
all
It
looks like the fleet (less one) skipped the stop at
Skull Cove and went all the way to Pruth Bay; the Park
on Calvert and Hecate Islands; nearly 100 NM which would
have been 10 to 13 hours for most. The water was still
“relatively good” yesterday and the forecast was 7
to 10 feet today. Hopefully we will hear tomorrow how
the standings are for the first half of the Nanaimo to
Prince Rupert Race leg. Pruth Bay is their scheduled
stop, lay day and beach BBQ.
From
Dick Timmerman:
Hi
Bob,
I checked my internet access here in Pruth Bay and am
surprised to find success. The whole Alaska fleet
made the Queen Charlotte crossing in the best water most
had seen. Unfortunately the "Wandrian"
felt it in their best interest to stay in the Broughtons
and not continue on to Alaska. We passed
up our Skull Cove stop as the water was so good we all
felt it prudent to keep on going to Pruth Bay.
We will have our big barbeque here and Don will
announce the results so far.
It's been a great trip so far. We look forward to
you joining us.
See you soon. Dick
