The Gig Harbor Yacht Club presents

The 2010 Jack and Jill and Friends

SAILBOAT RACE

September 11-12, 2010

Join us for a low- key "race" to Filucy Bay. Although you may invite as many people as you’d like, the key to this event is just one male ("Jack") and one female ("Jill") are involved in the operation of the boat while sailing. This year we may be dividing the fleet into Spinnaker and Non- Spinnaker classes if there is enough interest. You do NOT need a handicap or any special equipment to participate. This is a FUN event!

This is one of the favorite events of the year. COME JOIN US!

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th

9:00 a.m. Brunch at the Tides Tavern

11:00 a.m. First boat starts

6:00 p.m. Potluck dinner at Filucy Bay

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH

8:00 a.m. Coffee and pastries on the dock (Courtesy of GHYC)

10:30 a.m. First boat starts

The "race" will be held in two parts:

On Saturday, the starting line will be outside the mouth of Gig Harbor. Boats will start in reverse-order (slowest boats will start first at an exact time given out at the brunch). The finish line will be set outside the mouth of Filucy Bay. The course distance is 13.5 miles. As there is an ebb tide Saturday morning the race committee may elect to start the race south of the narrows bridge. The final course and starting time will be advised at the skipper's meeting after breakfast. No boat may finish after 6:00 p.m. If there is no wind in Balch Passage we may shorten the race and elect to finish on the eastern side of Balch Passage. There will be a short "skippers" meeting at the Tides Tavern at which time each boat will be given the order they start, the time they start after the first boat, and the time they start after the boat ahead of them starts. The same arrangement will be done at the morning coffee at Filucy Bay. Each boat should have a VHF radio and the race committee will announce starting times for each boat over the VHF on channel 72. The race committee should be advised of any retirement on channel 72. Racing rules will apply but protests are discouraged.

On Sunday, the starting line will outside entrance to Filucy Bay. You are finished when your mast is directly under The NEW Narrows Bridge. The course distance is 10 miles. No boat may finish after 4:00 p.m. If there is not wind in Balch Passage then the race Committee may elect to start the race on the eastern side of the passage.

Your score will be the order in which you reach each day’s finish line ( unless we have to shorten the race and then the race committee will have to do some calculating). Your finishing positions will be added together for your final result. In the event of a tie, your finish result on the Saturday portion will serve as the tie breaker.

Cost per boat is $37.00, which includes breakfast for one Jack and one Jill per boat. (Additional brunches are available for $15.00).

  • This is casual racing. Leave your rulebook behind and just sail safely. If you don’t have a handicap, we will assign you one.

We will have a potluck dinner on the docks on Saturday. Please bring a dinner item to share, utensils, and whatever you are drinking.

Moorage costs at Filucy Bay Marina will be the responsibility of the skipper of each boat and are payable after you arrive.

PLEASE TRY AND HAVE YOUR ENTRY IN BEFORE SEPTEMBER 9th
